- ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆Had an otherwise nice visit to Darwin which was then ruined by the experience at Souvenirs Galore. Purchased a ceramic coffee mug there which came in a closed box. When we later met friends at a restaurant, I opened the box to show them the mug, took it out of the box, and the handle fell off the mug, landing on the concrete floor, scattered and smashing. Figuring that something happened with the shipping of this item (or that a store customer had dropped it in the store, causing a crack which then broke when removed from the box), I picked up the pieces and went back to the store for a replacement. The experience in that store was horrific. Not only did they yell and accuse me of dropping the item, they absolutely refused to replace it with a new one. I did not ask for my money back - just wanted a replacement for the defective mug. They were so nasty, screaming, etc.... I have to say that I was extremely taken back and shocked. They knew wed never return since this was a once-in-a-lifetime visit to Darwin and their store - so they just didnt give a darn about customer service. Was so shocked and angry by this time, I told them to stuff it and walked out. Definitely not a nice experience in Darwin Hard to even remember everything else nice about the city since that awful memory always floats to the top. This is not the way to handle customers and is so unlike anything I have ever seen anywhere in the entire world, especially Australia. Most stores value your business, if only for a one-time customer. Very sad indeed.
